The sun shone brightly for our lovely reception children this week as they enjoyed their final trip of the year to Marwell Zoo. Linked to their topic on Africa and African animals the children had an amazing time learning about and looking at animals such as: Snow Leopards, reptiles, meerkats,

rhinos and snow leopards. The hot day was reminiscent of the Savanna and an exhausting, fun and educational day out.

  • Y4/5 Shakespeare Trip

    Published 19/07/24

On Wednesday, Year 4 and 5 visited Wylds Farm for a fabulous Shakespeare workshop which introduced them to Romeo and Juliet. After a warm up and whistlestop run through of the play, with various children taking on different roles, we headed up to the main stage area to meet with the actors and choreographers. After hearing from the actors about the roles they play and different acting techniques we tried our hand at them, beginning with choreographing our own dance to the same music that the actors use in their play. The highlight of the visit was being taught how to safely engage in stage combat - from hitting, slapping and hairpulling - including actions, sound effects and facial features! Before we left, the actors performed a fight scene from the play which brought to life the techniques that they had been practising. A great end to a great visit.

  • Y4 Camp Out July 2024

    Published 12/07/24

What an exciting time our Year 4s have had on their annual camp! They've been roughing it on the school field, enjoying a delicious fish and chips dinner, and tucking into a massive breakfast this morning. As you can imagine, there are some tired faces around today - I think sleep was in short supply last night!

I'd like to give a huge shout-out to Mrs Philpott, Miss Buxey, and Mrs Hines. They're absolute stars for working today after a night under canvas. Your dedication is truly appreciated!

It's wonderful to see our students creating lasting memories and embracing new experiences.

    Well done Year 4!

  • School Virtual Storytime

    Published 21/06/24

Today in Herons and Kestrels, we had an author called Richard O’Neill join us on a Teams meeting and he told us what it was like to live a Romani lifestyle.

He grew up travelling around in his family’s caravan and learnt how to do woodwork. Richard goes round to different schools teaching woodwork and shares, develops and helps children write stories. One day he was teaching some children to do some woodwork and there was four boys but only one girl. He told them only use your elbow. The first one was a boy he hit the nail flat. The next boy did the same. All the boys failed because they rushed and didn’t listen but the girl was patient and waited and she nailed the nail in perfectly while the boys just stood there looking at her unable to understand how he did it.

He also told us lots of stories from when he was a child. One of which was how the October half term was potato picking week. They were told there was a king potato in the field and whoever found this giant potato he would double their pay for that day. He and his brother were so determined to find it that they snuck in at night to start digging. They did not find it but they did find a bomb which then the next day the only way to remove it was too explode it. They were showered in mud and mashed potato that day!

We were then able to ask Richard questions about his life and his stories and it was really fascinating.
